Addiction
We as human beings had been addicted to something or the other since long ago. The only change is now most of the people are addicted to their smartphones. People scroll though endless news feed on social media and after some time realise that they had an Important job to do which was left Undone. Social Media is designed and Engineered to keep us hooked. Thousands of engineers work hard to make it look good and keep us coming to their websites
over and over again. The more people scroll though the endless feed the more the company earn. And the more it earns the more people work on it to make it more additive.
This is a never ending process. Now this isn't a bad thing because if used carefully it is a great tool to get you closer to the person who is otherwise a hard to reach personality. Today smartphones have the ability to do what was considered to be impossible decades ago. Today , Technology is a great power to humans. But with great powers comes great responsibility. We should take an honest inventory of how much time we spend in front of our screens. If you have Leisure time spend it reading a book or just call a friend whom you haven't meet for years Or go play outside. After all you have to make the decision and this decision will be a decisive one. Time is your most valuable asset, the earlier you realize this the saner you are.
Take full responsibility of your own time and manage it so that you shouldn't become on of those who spend 8 hours a day gazing a screen. Due to this we have lost our ability to focus and perform what Cal Newport calls 'Deep Work'. Simply deep work means to Do an important and cognitively demanding task with utmost concentration and focus. Due to so much of distraction around us majorly including our smartphones, Cal says that we are slowly losing our ability to perform Deep Work. Only humans can perform Deep work and as we are losing this ability we are likely to be replaced by a machine or an AI. The one thing which I would like to convey through this whole message is : Time is valuable and is not for sale on Amazon. Time once gone is forever gone. Use it wisely and use social media as a tool to get a necessary dose of inspirational content not as a way to kill your time. And as Tim Ferriss says;
"If you don't have time , you don't have priorities"
